

The days after Percy and Annabeth fell to Tartarus, Nico warns Hazel about how she will have to face Pasiphae at the Doors of Death and that only one of them will make it to the Doors. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. If the demigods don't succeed, Gaea's armies will never die. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape? If they can fight their way through Gaea's forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy's instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. However, during an interview, Rick Riordan revealed that all seven characters would be narrating the book from their own points-of-view. Later Rick Riordan read a small exert from the book, revealing Annabeth Chase as another one of the narrators. In the preview, it is confirmed that Hazel Levesque will be one of the narrators.

On June 18th, 2013, the audiobook for The Son of Sobek became available and included a preview of the first chapter. There will be a few scenes in the book that are in Tartarus. The title, The House of Hades, refers to the location of the mortal side of the Doors of Death, the House of Hades, an underground temple in Epirus.
